Congratulations, you finally made it! You have found the right apartment for you in this world of crazy real estate markets. But moving into a new apartment is not only about beginning a new chapter in your life; it also involves a lot of cleaning, unpacking, and decorating. It’s easy to get lost in the middle of this process, especially if you’ve already moved in, yet the moving boxes and parcels never seem to stop. So, we’re here to help you and offer advice on the three steps you must do in the process of moving to a new location:
Deep clean your new place
The first and most important step that you need to make after carefully reading the contract, signing it, and receiving the keys is cleaning your new place, especially now, when we are in the midst of a global pandemic and we want to ensure that we live in a safe environment. If you are lucky enough, sometimes the landlords hire cleaning companies that do all the job for you, but more often than not you will have to do all the work by yourself. The best situation is to take a day off and go to the flat without any luggage or packages so that you can clean without having to constantly move around different boxes. Even if the place seems to be neat and organized, make sure to deep clean it, especially in places such as the bathtub, the toilet, and the bedroom. If the previous tenant left things like the mattress and pillows or if they already came with the apartment, take them to the dry cleaner so that you will be sure that they are in good condition and safe to use.
Buy the essentials
When moving to a new place, especially if you have only lived with your parents beforehand or if you are moving out of state and would like to pack light, it’s common not to carry stuff like kitchen utensils, bathroom essentials, or toiletries. Thus it is important to make a list of all the essential things that you will need in your new place and then go shopping. This list obviously varies by the person and their lifestyle: someone can vitally need 10 scented candles, 5 blankets, and wall decorations, while others are fine without any of them. However, there are a few things that should be in everyone’s home, regardless of your occupation or how much time you spend inside. Make sure to purchase towels, a comfortable pillow, plates and bowls, a cup, a laundry basket, as well as things like a bucket, a mop, some hangers, a trash can, and detergents.
Decorate
Finally, after you have deep cleaned your apartment and have purchased all of the necessary items that you will need for a comfortable living it is time to spoil yourself and to start decorating your place so that it will reflect your taste and aesthetic. From inexpensive decorative pillows to pricey ceramic vases, there are many ways that you can decorate your place. You can also add a splash of color and make the room look more vivid by incorporating a bright accent decoration such as a painting or a blanket. For example, you can get a chunky and warm Irish blanket that not only will be a great decoration for your room, but will also be very practical and useful during colder seasons. The decorations can also vary depending on the time of the year, for example you can add string lights and a bowl of pinecones to your living-room during the Christmas season.
